Successful index investing in 4 steps

There are 2 tracks:

1. General Knowledge, which is the theory you can learn about in books, research papers, blogs, courses, etc.
2. Personal Journey, which is how you apply the general knowledge to your own situation and develop your own investment strategy (or personal investment plan).

The Personal Journey is where the transformation takes place. It’s where you take action and become an accomplished index investor. This is what actually matters.

And there 4 steps along those 2 tracks:

1. Understand, which is where you figure out stuff about investing in general but also about your personal situation, your goals and your options
2. Strategize, which is where you learn about portfolio construction and where you develop your personal investment plan (PIP) (based on everything you’ve done before)
3. Execute, which is where you learn how to actually do the trades, rebalancing, etc. and where you execute your PIP
4. Profit, which is the long term game, where you need the mindset to stay the course long term and benefit from the power of optimized compounding returns.

This is the simplest and most accurate framework I have developed that represents the best path to long-term success, based on decades of evidence and investor experience (not just my own).

Some of my students call my framework a “simple recipe for automated wealth building”. I quite like that name too :-)
